Membership & Benefits

Worcester Mountaineering Club has a broad range of experience with relative beginners and seasoned mountain goats all rubbing shoulders sharing experiences, knowledge and tall stories.

Our members participate in a range of activities, including rock climbing, mountaineering, alpinism, walking and scrambling. There are often members heading off at weekends for day trips in addition to the scheduled club meets.

Individual membership for 2024 is £30 or £16 for those joining from 01st July – for this you get the benefits listed below.

New Members

We are an inclusive bunch keen to attract new members and our only real requirement is that you must be aged 18 or over.

The best way to get started is to come along to Redpoint Worcester on a Thursday evening when a group for new / prospective members meets. If you are planning to come along please contact us beforehand to ensure there will be someone there to meet you.

We Don’t Teach but we can Help You Learn

We are not able to offer qualified instruction, if that is what you are looking for then we can advise on people and organisations offering courses. Also through our BMC affilliation we are sometimes offered discounted courses members occassionally attend.

Although we cannot offer formal training we can certainly help you learn by way of offering advice, answering questions, sharing experience, demonstrating basic techniques and advising on required equipment.

So a member who is keen to learn, self motivated, armed with a book like Rock Climbing Essential Skills and Techniques and perhaps a DVD like Get Out On Rock can certainly make progress and benefit from other members experience in terms of checking their understanding.

As WMC members engage in a range of activities at different levels we provide opportunities to follow what could be considered a typical route of progression in terms of skills and equipment required:

  1. Indoor Climbing
  2. Sport Climbing (bolted outdoor routes)
  3. Traditional Climbing (leader placed protection)

In addition to the above our members are also involved in walking, scrambling, mountaineering and ice climbing.
